Volunteering

I was a Girl Scout leader for 11 Junior Girl Scouts in troop 40273 who are going into 6th grade this coming year. We are a very active troop and stayed together for 5 years, starting when they were in second grade. We met each week for 1 1/2 hours and for scheduled, weekend activities and overnights as well. Each summer we do a three night camp at Camp Stoneybrook. This opportunity to volunteer to make a difference in the life of girls has been incredibly fulfilling. Together these girls have grown to be leaders, to gain confidence to try things they never would have without the support of each other, and to learn that girls can do anything! This year they will be earning their bronze award by implementing a program called Shelter Buddies into their area animal shelter that provides an opportunity to train and teach other children to read to dogs and cats in the animal shelters. Below you’ll find the videos we make each year at Girl Scout cookie selling time as well as the end of the year slideshows we do each year for our ending ceremony.

“Cookie Time” Parody to Shake it Off:

This video was our biggest production. I wrote the lyrics to a parody of Taylor Swift’s “Shake it off” for our troop called “Cookie Time” and invited all the area troops to dance in our video. I organized for a dance instructor to show them a simple dance and even had a dance party after the filming. This video has over 30,000 views on youtube and Girl Scout troops all over the country have used it at their cookie booths. This year a TV producer from the nationally syndicated show The List contacted me and our troop was thrilled to watch it air on TV March 1st on a segment about top Girl Scout cookie sellers!

Again I cannot thank you for inviting other troops to join you this year. Your video was so great last year that I had to share it and we recognized you and your troop at the cookie rally last year! You are an amazing leader and this is only your second year. I cannot begin to tell you how amazing this video is this year! The words are perfect for the song and the allowing anyone come that wanted to was so generous of you. Again, I could not help but share this to others especially to council. Thank you again! It is amazing!!!
